“How can you understand oppression if you’re not oppressed?”

There is something called logic, imagination, inquiry, reason, understanding, conclusion, comparison, association, empathy, deduction, relating among many other things. We are all human and share the human experience. We all live in the same world. You don’t need to understand something fully to understand the essence of it and what is vital or important.

How can you understand what driving is if you’ve never driven? How can you understand what flying is like if you’ve never been in a plane? How can you understand sorrow without having had to grieve? How can you understand math if you’ve never studied it? How can you understand friendship if you’ve never had a friend? Or love if you’ve never had a lover?

Experience completes understanding, it is not the sole basis of it.

These are just some examples. As you can see, that kind of reasoning doesn’t stand very long. Along with that what has been mentioned as examples are states of feeling. Example based in logic are even more tangible.

There are some things that are extremely hard to understand without experiencing them directly, but many if not most things aren’t.

In life, there also many overlaps and commonalities which further improves and strengthens understanding.

Existentially, everything is interconnected and perhaps even interdependent, meaning each thing‘s relevance depends in some way upon something else and can thereby be understood by it.
