I recently wrote about assimilation.
I would like to clarify something.
Assimilation doesn’t mean that different cultures, traditions and norms can never be practiced within a society that prefers a specific form of these things. It also doesn’t mean that we cannot have healthy debate about which aspects of cultures are good or bad, cross-culturally.
Rather, I think the important and fundamental thing to this is that diversity and multiculturalism shouldn’t mean that a nation must become a doormat for other cultures, rather than their host.
There is a very delicate balance (both in quality and makeup) when conflict occurs in relation to what has been mentioned, which I find is within very near reach. It doesn’t even have to mean taking a moment of introspection or reflection, because it even comes naturally..!
Rather, what one shouldn’t do is resist the harmony!
For assimilation is harmony, not only in theory (like concepts such as diversity is), but in practice too. And I believe it is what will bring true flourishing to all peoples.
